Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi will hold a joint public meeting in Kerala’s Wayanad on Sunday. The event, scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at Gandhi Park in Mananthavady, will see the siblings address voters together.
Rahul, who previously represented Wayanad in Parliament, will later address a public gathering in Areekode, Malappuram. Priyanka Gandhi, currently contesting the Wayanad seat, will hold three additional corner meetings in the district, intensifying her bypoll campaign.
Priyanka’s Campaign Schedule Intensifies
Priyanka, Congress General Secretary, recently filed her nomination with Rahul Gandhi present. Following this, she returned for a second campaign round without him. Priyanka has five scheduled meetings on Monday, with more events planned from November 5 to 7.
The Wayanad bypoll sees a three-way contest: Priyanka Gandhi, CPI candidate Sathyan Mokeri from the ruling CPI-M-led LDF, and BJP’s Kozhikode Corporation Councilor Navya Haridas. In total, 16 candidates are vying for the seat.
Strong UDF Presence in Wayanad
The bypoll was triggered after Rahul Gandhi chose to retain Raebareli over Wayanad. Rahul had won Wayanad in 2019 by 4.6 lakh votes, though this margin reduced to 3.64 lakh in 2024. Of the seven Assembly segments in the Wayanad constituency, four are held by the Congress-led UDF, while the CPI-M holds two and an independent holds one.
