He further recalled Visvesvaraya’s enduring legacy and said his achievements continue to motivate successive generations.

India celebrates National Engineers’ Day every September 15 to mark Visvesvaraya’s birth anniversary. Born on September 15, 1861, he remains among the country’s most prominent engineers and statesmen and is widely known as the ‘Father of Modern Mysore’.

Visvesvaraya made major contributions to engineering and public infrastructure. He, however, played a significant role in the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore and contributed to the development and implementation of advanced flood protection systems.

The renowned engineer received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1955 in recognition of his contributions to engineering, public works and society.

The Government of India formally established September 15 as National Engineers’ Day in 1968 to commemorate Visvesvaraya’s exceptional contribution to the engineering profession and also national development.

Shah’s tribute highlighted the continuing importance of engineers in strengthening India’s infrastructure and technological capabilities. His message underlined how engineering expertise, innovation and practical problem-solving continue to support the country’s wider nation-building ambitions.
