Rouse Avenue Court To Hear Congress Leader Karti P Chidambaram’s Plea To Go Abroad On May 8

Rouse Avenue Court will hear the plea of Congress leader Karti P Chidambaram, accused in four cases registered by CBI and ED, seeking to go abroad on May 8. The court will decide on the same day whether Karti Chidambaram should be allowed to go abroad or not. Karti P Chidambaram wants to visit UK and France from May 15 to June 1, and Germany and Spain from June 12 to July 15.

During this period, Karti P Chidambaram will participate in the tennis tournament. Karti has said in his application that it is necessary for him to be present there as the director of a company named Totus Tennis Limited, which is its co-organizer. Apart from this, he also has to attend some meetings there.

Apart from this, he wants to visit UK to meet his daughter and engage in some business activities an in such a situation, he should be allowed to do so. During the hearing of the case, CBI opposed Karti’s application. CBI said that Chidambaram has property in UK, but he has not yet provided information related to it to the agency.

Chidambaram’s lawyer said that Karti Chidambaram is not going abroad for the first time but has gone abroad several times in last 3 years with the permission of court. However, the lawyer appearing on behalf of agency said that affidavit given by the ED in the Supreme Court clearly states that Karti Chidambaram is misusing his freedom by going on foreign trips.

It is noteworthy that the four cases in which the Congress leader is facing charges include two cases of corruption registered by the CBI related to the alleged Aircel-Maxis scam and INX Media scam and two cases related to money laundering registered by ED. These include receiving foreign funds, Rs 305 crore, from Foreign Investment Promotion Board-related INX Media when his father P Chidambaram was finance minister.
