Lucknow: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated that there could be no religious reservations, accusing the opposition INDIA group of misrepresenting the people of the country on the matter and holding them accountable for the crisis of confidence in Indian politics. The subject of reservation has taken center stage in the current 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with both the BJP and the Congress criticizing one another.
The issue of finalizing the reservation is no longer relevant. Our Constitution makes no mention of religious reservations. No religious reservations will be made. The reservation process, which has been ongoing until now, would continue, and PM Modi has stated as much, Singh said on Friday.
“The opposition is attempting to deceive the country’s people in order to obtain votes…Congress and its supporters are to blame for the credibility issue in Indian politics,” he continued.
He also dismissed opposition charges that the BJP is aiming to change the Constitution as unfounded. “They (Congress) have made the most modifications to the constitution. We all wanted the Preamble of the Constitution to remain unchanged, but the Congress administration changed it in 1976, when Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister. These are unfounded charges.
They are fooling the people of the country,” he continued. On the party’s objective of 400 Lok Sabha seats, Rajnath said that a BJP-led NDA government will be created this time. “We are making progress toward our goal of attaining 400 seats,” he concluded.
