President Droupadi Murmu was briefed on Wednesday by the Chiefs of Indian Armed Forces regarding Operation Sindoor, India’s recent counter-terror strike in response to the Pahalgam attack.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, along with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan to present a detailed account of the operation.
The President appreciated the bravery and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces, calling their efforts a decisive and effective response to terrorism.

The President commended the valour and the dedication of the Armed Forces that made India’s response to terrorism a sterling success.”

Operation Sindoor
On 7 May, the Indian Armed Forces carried out coordinated strikes on nine terror hideouts located deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, following the terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April.
The Indian government also suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, a move that followed a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting held the day after the Pahalgam incident.
Addressing the nation on 12 May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that Operation Sindoor had set a new policy standard in India’s fight against terrorism, following earlier missions such as the 2016 surgical strike and the 2019 air strike.
PM Modi also stated that the decision to put the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance underlined India’s firm stance, adding, “Water and blood cannot flow together.”
The Prime Minister emphasised that any future dialogue with Pakistan would centre only on terrorism and the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
