PRAYAGRAJ: Special Cell to investigate madarsas on input of foreign funding

A case of irregularities in the running of madarsas has come to light in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh

Prayagraj: After receiving the inputs  of foreign funding being received by the Madarsas running in Prayagraj which are actively participating in religious conversion, a Special cell has been constituted by the UP Government for taking stern action in this regard.

The Special cell on the  inputs  received  that foreign funding is being done in the  Madarsas located in the villages including  Mauaima, Soraon, Karaili, Bamrauli, Bharatganj and Lalgopalganj areas of  the district have already started their probe.

According to the government records in Prayagraj  269 madrasas are  operating  in urban and rural areas. There are 78 madrasas which are not recognized by the government and are being run. About 22 thousand students are studying in these madrasas. There is a possibility of unrecognized madrasas being run with foreign funding. These facts will come out during investigation in which the secret of foreign funding will be revealed.
According to Mr Mohit Agarwal  ADG  Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), said that government has decided to  investigate  more than 4000 madrasas running in different districts of the state.

The apprehension of foreign funding to these Madrasas has already been raised. This fact also came to light in the investigation conducted last year, the report of which was sent to the government. Last year, the team of Minority Welfare Department under the leadership of the District  Magistrate administered investigation and verification of them .

Those Madrasas which were running unrecognized were also included. It was from the verification report itself that it was revealed that these Madrassas are getting funding. Apart from this, many Madrassas have received funds from the country as well as abroad.

According to  reports, funding of approximately Rs 9 crore was given to these Madrasas in the years 2022-23 and 2023-24. Now SIT will investigate from where and who gave funds to these Madrasas. Where the funds were spent will also be investigated.
