PM Modi Welcomes Gaza Hostage Deal Progress; Praises Trump’s Peace Push

PM Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the reported breakthrough in Gaza, voicing strong support for the release of hostages and long-term peace in the region.

Taking to X, he posted, “We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace.”

Developments in the Middle East indicate that Hamas has agreed to release all Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The move comes in response to a renewed peace initiative spearheaded by US President Donald Trump, who unveiled a 20-point plan earlier this week.

In a video address, President Trump described the development as a ‘very special day’. He expressed optimism about the release of hostages, calling it ‘unprecedented’, and thanked the international community for its support.

Trump also hinted that a final agreement was close, saying: “We’re very close to achieving that. We have to get the final word down in concrete.”

Hamas Open to Negotiations and Power Transition

In a statement on Telegram, Hamas confirmed its readiness to enter immediate negotiations. The group also expressed willingness to hand over Gaza’s administration to a non-partisan, technocratic Palestinian body backed by Arab and Islamic nations.

Trump’s peace plan reportedly includes:

• An immediate ceasefire
• The release of all hostages within 72 hours
• The creation of a transitional international body, the ‘Board of Peace’, to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction

Reports suggest that the proposed body would include President Trump himself, along with global figures such as former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Trump issued a firm deadline, warning Hamas to sign the deal by Sunday evening.

Posting on Truth Social, he wrote, “If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas.”

Currently, around 48 hostages remain in Gaza, with 20 confirmed alive. The international community is closely monitoring the situation as negotiations advance.

India has consistently advocated for a two-state solution and supported peaceful dialogue to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict.

PM Modi’s latest remarks reaffirm New Delhi’s commitment to a durable and just peace in the region.
