
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar and West Bengal on 18 July 2025 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for major development projects worth over ₹12,200 crore.
These initiatives will boost infrastructure, connectivity, and social welfare across both states.
In Bihar, PM Modi will visit Motihari and Patna to inaugurate and commence several key projects across sectors such as railways, roads, rural development, fisheries, and electronics.
A highlight will be the flagging off of four new Amrit Bharat trains on important routes, including Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna) to New Delhi, Bapudham Motihari to Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi), Darbhanga to Gomti Nagar (Lucknow), and Malda Town to Gomti Nagar via Bhagalpur.
These trains aim to strengthen regional connectivity and improve travel options.
On the road infrastructure front, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Ara bypass on NH-319.
He will also inaugurate the ₹820 crore four-lane Parariya to Mohania stretch of NH-319, which will enhance connectivity between Ara Town and the Golden Quadrilateral (NH-02), facilitating smoother movement of freight and passengers.
In rural development, the Prime Minister will release ₹400 crore to nearly 61,500 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission, with a focus on women’s empowerment.
Additionally, he will hand over keys to 12,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin and release ₹160 crore to support 40,000 more beneficiaries in rural housing.
Key Projects in West Bengal: ₹5,000 Crore Investment
Following Bihar, PM Modi will proceed to Durgapur, West Bengal, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹5,000 crore across the energy, transport, and infrastructure sectors.
He will launch the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia districts, valued at approximately ₹1,950 crore.
This initiative will provide piped natural gas (PNG) to households and commercial establishments, as well as compressed natural gas (CNG) at retail outlets.
PM Modi will also inaugurate the 132 km Durgapur–Kolkata segment of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) natural gas pipeline, along with the Bokaro–Dhamra line, enhancing gas supply networks in the region.
In power infrastructure, he will dedicate Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems retrofitted at the Durgapur and Raghunathpur thermal power stations, with an investment of over ₹1,457 crore aimed at pollution control and environmental compliance.
To improve rail connectivity, the Prime Minister will open the doubling of the 36 km Purulia–Kotshila rail line, worth over ₹390 crore.
This will enhance freight and passenger movement between major industrial centres like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ranchi, and Kolkata.
Additionally, two road over bridges (ROBs) constructed under the Setu Bharatam Programme, costing over ₹380 crore, will be inaugurated to boost road safety and connectivity.
PM Modi’s visits to Bihar and West Bengal underline the government’s commitment to simultaneous infrastructure development and social welfare.
The combined ₹12,200 crore project package aims to catalyse regional economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the living standards of millions across the two states.
