Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on an official visit to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on September 11, a government statement confirmed.
The day will feature significant diplomatic and administrative engagements, with Prime Minister Modi hosting the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, in Varanasi.
At approximately 11:30 AM, Prime Minister Modi will welcome Dr Ramgoolam, who is on a state visit to India from September 9 to 16.
Their meeting in the ancient city of Varanasi aims to highlight the deep civilisational ties, spiritual connections, and enduring people-to-people relationships that have long underpinned India–Mauritius relations.
The two leaders will engage in comprehensive bilateral discussions and review the full scope of cooperation between the nations, focusing particularly on development partnerships and capacity-building initiatives.
Expanding Cooperation Across Sectors
Prime Minister Modi and Ramgoolam will explore new opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including healthcare, education, science and technology, energy, and infrastructure.
Special emphasis will be given to renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy, reflecting the shared vision for sustainable and inclusive growth.
This summit builds upon the positive momentum generated during Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to Mauritius in March this year, where India and Mauritius elevated their relationship to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’.
As a close maritime neighbour and valued partner in the Indian Ocean Region, Mauritius plays a vital role in advancing India’s MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) Vision and the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
The partnership also contributes significantly to the collective aspirations of the Global South.
The upcoming Varanasi Summit will serve as a landmark event in India–Mauritius relations, reinforcing their mutual commitment to prosperity, sustainable development, and security.
Uttarakhand Flood Relief Efforts
Following the summit, the Prime Minister will proceed to Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Around 4:15 PM, he will conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas to assess the damage and relief needs.
At 5 PM, Prime Minister Modi will chair a high-level review meeting with state and central officials to evaluate ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures, ensuring a swift and effective response to the situation on the ground.
PM Modi’s visit underscores the government’s focus on strengthening regional ties, promoting sustainable development, and addressing immediate challenges like natural disasters.
The India–Mauritius dialogue and Uttarakhand relief efforts together reflect a balanced approach to diplomacy and domestic governance, reinforcing India’s commitment to inclusive growth and international partnership.
