PM Narendra Modi, accompanied by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, participated in a ceremony on Sunday to inaugurate two vital railway projects in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.
These projects, built with Indian assistance, are set to enhance Sri Lanka’s railway infrastructure and connectivity.
The leaders jointly inaugurated the 128 km Maho-Omanthai railway line, which has been refurbished with Indian assistance of USD 91.27 million.
Additionally, they launched the construction of an advanced signaling system between Maho and Anuradhapura, funded with Indian grant assistance of USD 14.89 million.
These railway modernization projects are part of the India- Sri Lanka development partnership and represent a significant milestone in improving north- south rail connectivity across the island nation.
The upgrades are expected to facilitate faster and more efficient movement of both passengers and freight.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi expressed India’s pride in assisting Sri Lanka with its development initiatives. He highlighted that these projects would strengthen the bond between the two nations by improving connectivity.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Boosting connectivity and enhancing friendship! In Anuradhapura, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and I jointly inaugurated the track upgrade of the existing Maho-Omanthai railway line. The leaders also launched the signaling project, which installs an advanced signaling and telecommunication system along the Maho-Anuradhapura section. India is proud to support Sri Lanka in various aspects of their development journey.”
After concluding his visit to Sri Lanka, PM Modi headed to Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram. While en route, he shared a video of himself observing the Ram Setu (Adam’s Bridge).
In a post on X, he expressed his spiritual connection, saying, “A short while ago, I was blessed with a Darshan of the Ram Setu on my way back from Sri Lanka.” And, as a divine coincidence, it happened at the same time as the Surya Tilak was taking place in Ayodhya. Blessed to have the Darshan of both. Prabhu Shri Ram is a uniting force for all of us. May His blessings always remain upon us.”
