Adani Foundation’s Vision Care Program Becomes A Lifeline In Mirzapur

The Adani Foundation’s Vision Care Program has emerged as a ray of hope for thousands in Mirzapur, especially among communities lacking access to basic eye care.

Launched in August 2024, the program specifically targets school-going children, women, and elderly citizens – groups most affected by unaddressed vision issues in rural India.

A powerful testament to the program’s impact comes from Indrawati Devi, a middle-aged homemaker from Mirzapur, who struggled with poor eyesight for years.

With limited access to eye care in her village, the Adani Foundation’s camp provided a lifeline.

“It was easy to reach the camp, and the doctors were helpful,” she shared. “After a thorough check-up, I received a pair of new spectacles, free of cost. I now feel confident about a safer and more comfortable future.”

Bridging The Gap In Rural Eye Health

Access to timely and quality eye care remains a major challenge across rural India.

Limited infrastructure, low awareness, and financial constraints prevent people from receiving the necessary treatment.

This gap is especially critical for children, as poor vision affects academic performance, and for women, who often face cultural and logistical barriers to healthcare.

For senior citizens, untreated vision issues drastically lower their quality of life and increase dependency.

Recognizing these challenges, the Adani Foundation’s initiative aligns with the National Program for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), aiming for early detection and prevention of vision loss.

As a direct result of this alignment, in Mirzapur alone, over 23,000 individuals have received eye screenings, free spectacles where needed, and referrals for advanced care.

Community-Based Approach

Through partnerships with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and local outreach, the program ensures grassroots implementation.

Regular eye checkups are promoted as essential to overall well-being and are key to detecting conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration early on.

The program operates in 11 states and has conducted over 1.17 lakh screenings across India since its inception.

In Mirzapur, the impact is not only medical but social – enabling individuals to live more independently, contribute to household income, and access educational and employment opportunities.

Empowering Through Vision

As the social responsibility arm of the Adani Group, the Adani Foundation, established in 1996, has consistently upheld its commitment to strategic social investment, focusing on key areas such as education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, climate action, and community development.

Over the years, this unwavering commitment has translated into a vast presence, with the Foundation currently active in 6,769 villages across 19 states, thereby positively impacting the lives of over 9.1 million people.

In this broader framework of inclusive growth, the Vision Care Program has emerged as a significant initiative.

Through this program, the Foundation is not only addressing critical gaps in eye healthcare but also bridging the divide between medical need and service accessibility in underserved regions.

By extending timely screenings, distributing free spectacles, and facilitating referrals for advanced care, the program is transforming lives at the grassroots level.

Ultimately, by restoring vision and preventing avoidable blindness, the Vision Care initiative is empowering individuals to regain independence, pursue education and livelihoods, and realize their full potential through the gift of clear sight.
