PM Modi Announces End Of G20 Summit, Brazil To Host Next Presidency

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded the G20 Summit by reciting the peace prayer “Swati Astu Vishwa” as he passed the gavel of the G20 chair to President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“I declare the end of G20 summit. Hoping the roadmap of One Earth One family and One future be joyful. Thank you,” said the PM while ending the session.

He further added, “In last two days, all of you came up with a lot of suggestions and put forth proposals. It is our duty to review the suggestions we have received so as to see how their progress can be sped up. I propose a virtual session at the end of November to review the topics discussed in the summit.”

The Brazilian president was congratulated by PM Modi on his country’s forthcoming 2024 presidency. After assuming the G20 presidency, the Brazilian President praised PM Modi for “effectively leading the G20 bloc and the excellent work in this summit.” He emphasized the significance of achieving international equality.

“We will only be able to face the global problems if we address the issue of inequality – inequality of income, of access to healthcare, education, food, gender and race and also of representation is at the origin of these anomalies,” Lula said. He even emphasized the need of new developing countries as permanent, non-permanent members in the UN Security Council to regain political strength.

G20 leaders paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers followed by a tree-plantation ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, G20 venue.

In the first session, India had a big win after the New Delhi declaration was adopted with 100% consensus overcoming the Russia-Ukraine issue remained the main sticking point, as PM Modi called it as ending of “global trust deficit”.
