The Congress said on Thursday that the previous 10 years of the Modi administration have seen a worsening of the “jobs famine” in the nation and that the prime minister has failed miserably to deliver on his pledge to create two crore jobs annually.
Jairam Ramesh, General Secretary of the Congress, stated that India’s youth should have growth that provides them with high-quality jobs, not unemployment and “pakora” stores. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy said that in December 2023, the unemployment rate for young people aged 25 to 29 reached 15.5%, the highest level in over four years.
“This means that unemployment now is worse than it was during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he alleged. He said that the unemployment rate peaked at 45.5% for young people aged 20 to 24. Congress leader further added that the unemployment rate, even for people between the ages of 30 and 34, is at a three-year high.
According to PTI, “The crisis is especially bad in rural areas, and more and more families are turning to MGNREGA as there are no other jobs available. It is absolutely evident that the Prime Minister has failed most miserably to fulfil his promise of creating 2 crore jobs per year,” Ramesh further added.
