The Supreme Court has dismissed the habeas corpus petition filed by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The court urged farmers to protest peacefully and avoid blocking highways. It also stressed the need for dialogue to prevent inconvenience to the public.
The bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan confirmed Dallewal’s release. It noted that another protester ended his hunger strike after persuasion. The court assured that the farmers’ demands are under consideration in a pending case. Advocate Guninder Kaur Gill, representing Dallewal, was reminded to ensure protests do not disrupt daily life.
Farmers Protest at Khanauri Border
Dallewal has returned to the Khanauri border, where protests continue. Farmers have given the government a five-day deadline to respond to their demands. They plan to take action in Delhi on December 6 if no progress is made.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced that the decision to surround Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been postponed. Protesters remain firm in their demand for dialogue and solutions.
Police Actions Spark Anger
On November 26, police removed Dallewal from the Khanauri border during the night and admitted him to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana. Officials cited concerns about his health and age. This action angered farmers, prompting protests.
DIG Patiala Range Mandeep Singh Sidhu clarified that the police acted to ensure Dallewal’s safety. Farmers continue to press for their demands while maintaining peaceful demonstrations.
