Passengers Injured As Air India’s Delhi-Sydney Flight Suffers Severe Turbulence

Some passengers onboard an Air India flight was injured after the aircraft encountered severe turbulence, said the officials.

Reportedly, the incident took place on Tuesday, when the Air India flight, which had to take off from Delhi for Sydney, faced turbulence mid-air.

According to the officials, ‘no serious injuries’ were reported in the incident and that the passengers were given medical aid on the flight.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, an official of aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said, “Cabin crew provided first aid to the injured with the assistance of a doctor and a nurse travelling as passengers, using an onboard first aid kit.”

Moreover, the flight’s manager at Sydney also arranged medical assistance for the passengers upon arrival, the official added.

Further, the statement said that three passengers availed medical assistance at the Sydney airport, adding that none of them required hospitalization.

Flight landed safely in Sydney

Air India spokesperson also said, “Air India’s flight AI302 of 16th May 2023, operating from Delhi to Sydney encountered turbulence mid-air leading to discomfort to the passengers on board. The flight landed safely in Sydney and three passengers availed of medical assistance on arrival, none of whom required hospitalization. This onboard incident has been reported to the relevant authorities as a standard practice.”

Last month, a woman – onboard an Air India flight from Nagpur to Mumbai – was bitten by a scorpion. Air India had called it an “extremely rare and unfortunate incident involving a scorpion.”
