Pakistani Spy Arrested In Rajasthan For Leaking Classified Information

Police CID (Security) Intelligence apprehended a suspected Pakistani spy, Mahendra Prasad (32), from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on Tuesday.

Prasad managed the DRDO Guest House at the Chandan Field Firing Range and leaked classified information about India’s defence activities.

CID (Security) Inspector General Dr Vishnukant stated that the Rajasthan CID Intelligence maintained heightened surveillance on anti-national and subversive activities, given the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. This monitoring led to the identification of Mahendra Prasad, a contractual employee of the DRDO Guest House, as a suspect.

Investigations revealed that Prasad, a native of Palyun, Almora in Uttarakhand, contacted a Pakistani intelligence handler via social media, leading to suspicions of espionage.

The accused allegedly provided sensitive information about the movement of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers. These officials visit the Chandan Field Firing Range, a critical site for missile and weapon trials.

Following his arrest, Prasad underwent joint interrogation by security agencies. Security agencies thoroughly analysed his mobile phone. They confirmed that he had shared confidential details concerning DRDO operations and Indian Army activities with his Pakistani handler.

Formal Arrest & Ongoing Investigation

Based on the evidence gathered, CID Intelligence formally charged Mahendra Prasad with espionage. Authorities are currently probing the full extent of the security breach and investigating whether additional individuals form part of the espionage network.

This arrest highlights the persistent threat foreign intelligence agencies pose to India’s strategic establishments.

The incident emphasises the need for continuous vigilance and robust security measures to protect sensitive national defence operations.

Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding national security. They have urged all personnel working in sensitive areas to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity or approaches.

The apprehension of Mahendra Prasad at the DRDO facility in Jaisalmer is a significant breakthrough in India’s efforts to counter espionage activities. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by national security agencies in protecting critical defence infrastructure.
