PM Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday, where both leaders reviewed progress in key areas of bilateral cooperation and pledged to advance the India–Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership.
Uzbekistan President Extends Independence Day Greetings
President Mirziyoyev conveyed warm wishes to PM Modi and the people of India ahead of the country’s 79th Independence Day.
PM Modi, in a post on X, described the conversation as ‘fruitful’ and highlighted the reaffirmation of their shared resolve to deepen strategic ties.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders assessed progress in sectors such as trade, connectivity, health, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
They also discussed regional and global developments of mutual interest and agreed to remain in close contact.
India was among the first nations to recognise Uzbekistan’s state sovereignty after its independence. Over the years, the leaders of both countries have maintained strong engagement.
PM Modi visited Tashkent in 2015 and 2016, and Samarkand in 2022, while President Mirziyoyev visited India in 2018 and 2019. They also held a Virtual Summit in December 2020 and met during the COP-28 in Dubai (2023) and the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia (2024).
In January 2022, PM Modi hosted the first India-Central Asia Summit in virtual format, attended by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Both nations continue to engage under the India-Central Asia Dialogue platform, launched in 2019, to strengthen regional cooperation.
EAM Jaishankar’s Recent Meeting with Uzbekistan Counterpart
In June, EAM S Jaishankar met Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov to discuss cooperation in connectivity, investment, trade, and energy sectors.
They also addressed the common challenge of terrorism affecting both regions. Saidov participated in the 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue in New Delhi, where Central Asian nations expressed solidarity in condemning the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
