ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT

PRAYAGRAJ

The Allahabad High Court has said that the spread of obscene videos on internet (social media) is the result of social degradation. In such cases, police officers must ensure the highest quality while conducting investigations.

Giving the above said observation was given by  Mr Justice Ajay Bhanot while hearing the bail application of accused Suraj.

The court has directed the Director General  of Police  to take immediate steps to remove the shortcomings of police investigation. Direction to Superintendent of Police Jaunpur has been made for his personal  appearance on the High Court Obscene Video next date of hearing, with an explanation for not recovering the viral video.

The witness stated that an obscene video was circulated on social media, but the investigating officer did not recover that video. The court has taken this seriously.

The court said that it is unfortunate that the quality of investigation by the Uttar Pradesh  Police is ‘very weak’ which can cause ‘social outrage’. The court said that it seems that the order is not being followed or the police is failing to maintain the quality of investigation of IT related crimes.

The court has also directed the police to issue necessary guidelines to increase the quality of investigation. The next hearing in the case will be on November 20.
