Five NLFT Militants Surrender in Tripura
Five militants affiliated with the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) BM group surrendered to authorities in Tripura’s Dhalai district.
Kanta Mohan Tripura (45), Nakshatra Debbarma (32), Emang Debbarma (20), Getajoy Tripura (23), and Mansubar Tripura (25) turned themselves in, according to Superintendent of Police Avinesh Kumar Rai.
The surrendered militants had been receiving training at NLFT’s Silacherri camp in Bangladesh. Due to challenges and adverse conditions, they left the camp and crossed the international border to surrender to the police in Tripura.
Efforts to Trace and Surrender
Authorities had received intelligence regarding the NLFT militants deserting the training camp in Silacherri, Chittagong Hill Tracts, and attempting to surrender.
Contact was initially established with the group before Independence Day celebrations. After crossing the Indo-Bangla border in the Chawmanu area, the militants finally surrendered at Chawmanu police station.
Interrogation and Future Steps
The surrendered militants are now under custody and will be subjected to interrogation.
While the full extent of the outfit’s strength is yet to be determined, it is believed that approximately 15 to 20 militants might still be hiding in the Silacherri hideout in Bangladesh.
The militants’ decision to surrender sheds light on the challenges and adverse conditions they faced during their training.
