Mumbai Police visited comedian Kunal Kamra’s residence in connection with a case related to his controversial parody song.
Hours later, Kamra revealed that he had not lived at that address for ten years.
“Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 years is a waste of your time & public resources,” he posted on X.
The police had sent two summons to Kamra after registering an FIR on March 24.
The case stems from a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, who alleged that Kamra made derogatory remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Besides this FIR, three more cases have been filed against Kamra across Maharashtra. Authorities transferred them to the Khar police since the venue of his stand-up show, The Habitat, falls under their jurisdiction.
Kamra, who currently resides in Tamil Nadu, has received interim protection from arrest from the Madras High Court. Despite the legal troubles, he has refused to apologize.
“I will not apologise. I don’t fear this mob & I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down,” he said in a statement.
His act featured a parody song using the word ‘gaddar’ (traitor), a term often used by Uddhav Thackeray’s faction to criticize Shinde.
The performance triggered backlash from Shinde’s supporters, who vandalized the club and the hotel where it was recorded.
Shinde’s party workers also threatened to assault Kamra if seen in public. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police asked him to appear before them on March 31.
