Delhi High Court Seeks AIIMS, Centre’s Reply On PG Admission Counseling Delay

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and AIIMS regarding the delay in conducting additional counseling for PG admissions despite vacant seats.

Justice Vikas Mahajan’s bench will hear the matter on April 4.

Several doctors who appeared for the January 2025 session of INI-CET filed a petition demanding additional counseling.

They argued that AIIMS was supposed to conduct a spot round after the open round of admissions but failed to do so.

They urged the court to direct AIIMS to hold the additional counseling without delay.

The petitioners pointed out that the AIIMS prospectus mentions additional counseling in such cases.

However, AIIMS’ lawyer claimed the petition was based on incorrect facts. He stated that additional counseling can only happen with the approval of the competent authority of the concerned Institute of National Importance (INI).

He also argued that the INI should be a party in the case.

In response, petitioners’ lawyer Tanvi Dubey said she would file an application to include INI as a party.

AIIMS conducted the INI-CET exam for PG courses, including MD, MS, MCH (six years), DM (six years), and MDS, on November 10, 2024. It declared the results on November 16, 2024.

The AIIMS PG admission counseling case will now proceed as the court seeks explanations from the authorities.
