Mumbai-Bengaluru highway blocked by protestors, demand for Maratha quota continues

On Tuesday afternoon, a group of demonstrators blocked the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway for two hours, resulting in a severe traffic jam.

Maratha community members in Maharashtra continued protesting across the state, demanding Maratha reservations in government employment and education under OBC category on Tuesday.

In Solapur, a different group of Maratha Kranti Morcha labourers blocked the train tracks. Images from the demonstration showed protestors demanding reservations for the Maratha community while holding saffron flags and setting fire to tyres on the railroad tracks.

Ram Jadhav and Nishant Salve, two protestors, were taken into custody by Solapur City Police and railway officials. Even though the protests are still going on, the authorities were able to remove the demonstrators from the train tracks.

A panchayat samiti office was set on fire by a group of protestors in Maharashtra’s Jalna district on Tuesday, according to police.

In a different incident that occurred in Jalna, some young Maratha people attempted on Monday afternoon to stop trains at a railway gate in Shelgaon village, Badnapur tehsil. In an attempt to stop train operations, the demonstrators sat on the railway tracks.
