Meghalaya Police Deploys 1,500 Personnel For HM Amit Shah Visit

Meghalaya Police has finalised elaborate security and traffic arrangements for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day Shillong visit on October 4 and 5.

Shah will visit the city to present the prestigious Presidential Colours to the Meghalaya Police during a formal ceremony.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said preparations were complete. He identified traffic management as the biggest challenge during the high-profile visit.

“Traffic is the biggest concern,” Syiem told reporters. He said police had planned carefully to ensure smooth vehicle movement while limiting inconvenience to the public.

The SP (Traffic) will issue advisories covering routes to avoid and timings for traffic restrictions during VIP movements.

Police have prepared a comprehensive security plan for all important venues and routes. About 1,500 personnel will be deployed across Shillong. Tactical teams and personnel from different units have joined the security arrangements.

The deployment will cover key locations and movement corridors linked to Shah’s programme.

The Presidential Colours rank among the highest honours awarded to police and military organisations for distinguished service.

Syiem described the recognition as a matter of pride for Meghalaya Police. He said the force is among the few police organisations in the Northeast to receive the distinction.

He credited the honour to the sacrifice, integrity and dedication of police personnel. Meghalaya Police will continue strengthening professionalism and service delivery while upholding integrity.

Authorities will issue detailed traffic advisories before the visit and urged commuters to cooperate with deployed personnel.
