Swiss President Guy Parmelin will undertake a State Visit to India from October 5-7 at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation, with discussions expected to cover a broad range of bilateral issues.

PM Modi and Parmelin are scheduled to meet on October 5 to assess cooperation in trade and investment, science, technology, innovation, mobility, culture and people-to-people relations.

Their discussions will also cover regional and global developments and coordination in multilateral forums.

President Droupadi Murmu will receive Parmelin and host a banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also meet the Swiss President.

Parmelin will travel with a senior delegation of government officials and business and academic representatives.

His programme will include discussions with Indian government members, business representatives and officials working in scientific cooperation.

The visit will also coincide with the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on October 7. The summit will bring together government and business representatives to discuss investment and fresh avenues for economic cooperation.

The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) entered into force on October 1, 2025, and has become an important framework for expanding economic ties between India and Switzerland.

Switzerland currently has more than 330 companies operating in India. The upcoming trip will mark Parmelin’s first State Visit to India.

He previously travelled to New Delhi in February 2026 for the AI Impact Summit, where he met PM Modi and discussed India-Switzerland economic relations, including trade, investment and technology cooperation.

The two leaders also met in June during PM Modi’s visit to Switzerland, when they discussed strengthening bilateral ties.

The Swiss government said the October visit will underline the broad partnership between the two countries, including cooperation in economic affairs, education, research, innovation and migration.
