Male Co-Passenger Molests Woman In IndiGo Flight, Accused Under Police Custody

A male co-passenger on a late-night IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Guwahati is accused of molesting a female passenger while the cabin lights were dimmed on Saturday.

The airline reported that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the individual after the incident, and he was then turned over to Guwahati police. Around nine o’clock in the evening, the IndiGo flight 6E-5319 departed Mumbai and arrived 15 minutes after midnight. This is the fourth instance of sexual harassment involving passengers on aircraft that has been recorded in the previous two months.

The woman claimed in an interview with Times of India that she fell asleep on the aisle seat of flight after the cabin lights were dimmed. Before sleeping, she lowered the armrests, but when she got up, they were raised and her passenger sitting next to her was leaning very close to her.

She said, “I found it weird because I distinctly remembered putting the hand down. Half-asleep, I didn’t think too much about it, put the armrest down again and went back to sleep”.

After some time, she eventually woke up and felt the hands of the male passenger on her, but because he his eyes were closed, she decided not to draw any immediate conclusions. She waited while his eyes were half-closed he pretended to be asleep.

After a few minutes, when she again discovered the passenger groping and touching her improperly, the woman claimed she wanted to scream but was unable to do so because she “froze.” She described how she mustered up the guts to scream and pull the man’s hand away when he tried to grope her again. She then flipped on the seat lights and called the cabin crew. She said, “While I was screaming and crying, he started apologizing for what he did.”
