The Maharashtra government has issued a gazette notification announcing the nomination of seven leaders to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the Governor’s quota. This development occurred late Monday night following the Governor’s approval.
Among the seven nominees, three are affiliate with the BJP, while two represent Shiv Sena and two belong to the NCP. Each member will serve a six-year term. Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the MahaYuti coalition chose to nominate seven members, leaving five positions open for nomination after the elections. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde submitted the names for the Governor’s assent earlier on Monday.
The BJP’s nominees include Chitra Wagh, the state women’s wing chief; Vikrant Patil, a party leader from Raigad district; and Dharmguru Babusing Maharaj Rathod from Washim, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Banjara Virasat Museum.
