The Yogi government has launched ‘Operation Shatakveer,’ an initiative aimed at protecting trees over 100 years old across Uttar Pradesh, with a special focus on the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the operation seeks to preserve both ancient trees and local wildlife while ensuring the smooth conduct of the spiritual event.
The initiative is to revive and protect old trees situated along roads, parking areas, and tent zones, enhancing the experience for millions of devotees likely at Mahakumbh Nagar.
The state government is working to create an environmentally sustainable atmosphere for the grand religious gathering, marking the first time in Maha Kumbh history that it has integrated environmental concerns into the planning process.
The state’s Forest Department, following the CM’s directives, has also devised a comprehensive wildlife relocation plan.
This effort will relocate wild animals to their natural habitats, ensuring safety for both the wildlife and the devotees attending the event.
The government has allocated a budget of Rs 20 lakh for the program, focusing on preventing wildlife-related incidents and preserving the natural ecosystem.
Efforts are underway in Prayagraj to reinforce and protect these century-old trees.
Authorities are installing protective circles around the roots and concrete posts to safeguard the trees, particularly in the Sangam area.
At the same time, a large-scale tree pruning initiative is in progress to allow better movement of devotees and improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the region as part of a beautification drive.
The Yogi government is taking steps to keep the Maha Kumbh environment free from plastic waste, alongside protecting trees and wildlife.
‘Maha Kumbh 2025 To Be Polythene-Free, Ensuring Pure Water & Air’
Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena, State Forest and Environment Minister, emphasized that this year’s event will be entirely polythene-free, ensuring pure water and air for all participants.
He stated, “Devotees will experience pure water and air here. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, we are working closely with saints to ensure the success of this campaign. Additionally, devotees and saints have been requested to avoid bringing prasad and flowers in polythene.”
