Maha Kumbh 2025, the grandest gathering of Sanatan faith, will likely attract 40–45 crore devotees from across India and the world. The pilgrims will come together at Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam for the holy ritual of bathing at the sacred confluence.
Charity, particularly food donation, holds immense importance during the month-long event.
Reflecting this tradition, hundreds of organizations will set up bhandaras (community kitchens) to provide free meals to visitors.
The fair, starting 13 January, will see food services running throughout, with many already operational.
Notable groups such as Akshaya Patra, ISKCON, and Om Namah Shivay will serve meals to large numbers of devotees.
‘Fair Price Shops To Provide Affordable Essentials For Devotees At Maha Kumbh 2025’
Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant stated that around 8,000 to 10,000 organizations will likely participate, with Fair Price Shops providing affordable essential food items for devotees.
He stated, “Representatives from nearly every religious sect in the country will be welcomed by the fair administration, with comprehensive arrangements in place for their participation. To further support devotees, the administration has established Fair Price Shops, providing essential food items at affordable rates, ensuring a seamless and fulfilling experience for all attending this spiritual spectacle.”
‘Bathing & Donating Hold Profound Significance During Kumbh’
Vivek Chaturvedi, ADM Maha Kumbh, highlights that bathing and donating in Prayagraj carry profound significance during events such as the Kumbh.
“During these festivals, hundreds of organizations come forward to organize free langars and bhandaras, serving meals to millions of devotees. Organizers set up community feasts at major intersections, corners, and streets across the city. Estimating their exact number is challenging, as both organizations and residents participate in these charitable acts in large numbers,” he asserted.
Bhandaras have already begun at key locations. Near Digambar Akhara, All India Panchterah Tyagi started its services on 1 December, offering free meals from 9 AM to 9 PM, with tea served from 4 AM.
Similarly, Shri Hinglaj Math Alag Darbar will begin food distribution at Juna Akhara on 25 December, operating in two shifts daily.
Many groups are organizing 24-hour services. Raghuvansh Seva Sankalp Trust from Ayodhya will run round-the-clock food distribution, as will the Maa Reva Foundation from Madhya Pradesh, under its initiative ‘Ananya Anna Kshetra’, ensuring meals are available for all devotees throughout the event.
