Kerala: Woman Shares Obscene Social Media Post Against Step Daughter, Accused Booked Under POCSO Act

A POCSO case has been registered against a 20-year-old woman who was angry with her husband, took to his social media and shared an obscene post against his 11-year-old daughter from his first marriage.

The girl along with her grandmother reached the police station in Thodupuzha area of Idukki district of Kerala and lodged a complaint against the woman. On further investigation, the officials got to know that it was the girl’s stepmother who committed the irresponsible act.

As per the officer, “We have not arrested the woman in view of the fact that she has a baby whom she is feeding. However, we will have to eventually arrest her. We will consult the jurisdictional court on the matter and will move accordingly.”

A case against the accused has been registered under various provisions of the POCSO(Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, juvenile Justice Act, Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. As per the officer, “Several of the provisions are non-bailable.”

All the electronic gadgets and devices of the couple have been seized and will be sent to forensic lab for testing, after which further actions will be taken.
