It is not something that occurred suddenly. The souring relationship has a long prop roots in the previous years supporting the huge banyan of ‘misunderstanding’.
It is not the ‘K’ factor only which is responsible for what is happening today. Khalistan factor may be in the center of the relations of the two nations but it is much more than that. There are many factors at play.
It is basically ‘U’ factor which seems more responsible. The understanding between India and Canada has continuously been shaking for years. Canadian side is mainly responsible for this to happen. The Business Mission which started twenty three years ago in the year 2010, has not yet yielded some good results. Why? That is the ‘why’ we see here behind the soaring of the mutual relations.
If there are more factors behind Indo-Canda un-amity situation, then there are ‘V’ and ‘D’ factors also. Here wee find V as a Vote factor and D as the Drug factor. This may be shocking for many around the world but this is for real.
Let us go six years back. In 2017, PM Justin Trudeau had invited a banned Khalistani terrorist in Canada for a dinner discussion. That terrorist Manjit Singh Gil was involved in the attack on an Indian minister on Canada visit in 1986. This was one for instance in a number of anti-India activities being indirectly supported by India then also didn’t like it and took strong note of it.
Thus, basically this is the ‘K’ factor belonging to the anti-India movement of Khalistan from the deck of Canada. This is basically their ‘geo-political ‘ balance against India by anti-India forces around the world. Supporting any anti-India activity, group or force they find it beneficial for their vested interests. Henceforth, Canada is also not an exception to it.
Trudeau, is also balancing his falling political stature with support of anti-India forces in Canada. This is where the V factor seems at play. Playing in the hands of anti-India forces around the world also makes Trudeau a V amongst a pro-India global fraternity.
The K word now is associated with Khalistan which earlier was meant for Kashmir. This newly emerged K in Indian geopolitics and diplomacy significantly seems to be vastly contentious while souring ties between Canada and India.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau accuses the Indian government of involvement in the killing of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar which has been strongly rejected by India. in Canadian Parliament Trudeau said on 18th of September 2023, “A foreign govt’s involvement in the killing of a Canadian citizen in Canada is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty.”
The statement sounds a deep grudge of Trudeau against India. This also was seen in a more resentful manner when after this Canada also expelled a top Indian diplomat in this regard.
Calling it “absurd and motivated”, New Delhi rejected it saying, “The unsubstantiated allegation seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists, who have been sheltered in Canada and are continuously threatening India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The inaction of the Canadian Government on this is long-standing and continuing concern.”
