Karnataka’s 300 Dalits Accuse Malligere Village Government Of Caste Discrimination In Water Supply

The local government in Malligere village, Karnataka, is accused by the Dalit people of discriminating against them by not releasing water solely to their colony. More than 300 Dalit households reside in the community.

The villagers reported that all of the community, with the exception of their colony, had access to water.

The claims have been refuted by Panchayat Development Officers (PDO), who also stated that the water supply has been restored.

A Panchayat Development Officer named Keshava Murthy reported that one of the two borewells in the colony where the Dalit families live had dried up.

Following a brawl with people from nearby colonies who were allegedly making casteist jokes at them, the locals took to the streets and the water supply was restored. When the Dalit villagers went to the other colonies to use the taps there, there was a fight amongst them.

However, Tumkur District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner haven’t made any comment on the matter.
