Tejaswini Gowda, Former BJP Member, Joins Congress Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

After stepping down as an MLC in Karnataka, Tejaswini Gowda of the BJP made a significant move by joining the Congress on Saturday, citing the BJP’s alleged disregard for constitutional and democratic principles. Emphasizing her return to the grand old party as a “homecoming,” Tejaswini Gowda, who previously served as a Congress MP from 2004 to 2009 before switching to the BJP in 2014, expressed her commitment to the Congress cause.

Tejaswini Gowda’s induction into the Congress took place in the presence of party general secretary Jairam Ramesh and media and publicity department head Pawan Khera at the party headquarters in Bangalore. Jairam Ramesh welcomed her back, expressing confidence in her active participation in future elections and highlighting her past contributions as a Congress MP.

In her remarks, Tejaswini Gowda emphasized the Congress’s commitment to action and cited historical evidence to support her belief in the party’s values. She accused the BJP of lacking respect for constitutional democracy.

As a former journalist, Tejaswini Gowda also expressed optimism about the Congress’s electoral prospects in Karnataka, predicting victory in 23 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming polls.

Having joined the BJP in 2014 and subsequently elected as an MLA in 2018, Tejaswini Gowda served as a spokesperson for the party. Her term as an MLC was scheduled to conclude in June 2024.

Tejaswini Gowda’s political journey began when she represented the Kanakapura constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha (2004-2009) as a Congress candidate, defeating former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda of the JD(S).
