An inter-ministerial team, comprising senior officers of five central ministries, namely agriculture, road transport & highways, water resources, energy and finance, will visit from Sunday. This was stated by the Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra.

The Union Minister of state for Home Affairs has arrived in the flood ravaged state on Saturday to take stock of the situation. Mishra will be in the state for three days. “The Union Government is constantly monitoring the situation in Sikkim and has assured all possible helps,” he said.

He  held a meeting with state Chief Secretary V B Pathak and senior officials of the state government, army and other organisations to discuss the situation.  Officials of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDC) and NHPC Ltd were also present at the meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is in constant touch with the state Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and has assured of every possible helps.  Army has been called in to control the situation.

About 25000 people were affected,  1200 houses were damaged and 13 bridges in the state has been washed out in the floods that resulted from cloudburst. Mishra has also met the state Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to discuss this natural calamity.
