In a major defensive operation on Thursday night, the Indian Army shot down more than 50 Pakistani drones along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Borders (IB), according to media reports.
The large-scale counter-drone operation was launched in response to Pakistan’s failed attempt to send multiple swarm drones into Indian territory.
The drones were detected over several key areas, including Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot.
Indian Army Air Defence units acted swiftly, deploying anti-aircraft systems and successfully neutralising the aerial threat.
Sources confirmed that the Army engaged the drones using a range of air defence weapons, including:
The extensive engagement demonstrated the Indian Army’s preparedness and capability to counter modern aerial threats.
Following the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Driving to Jammu now to take stock of the situation after last night’s failed Pakistani drone attack directed at Jammu city & other parts of the division.”
Locals living near the border described the night as tense, with complete blackouts and continuous retaliatory firing.
One resident told the media, “There was a complete blackout last night. Drones started flying, and firing continued the entire night. Our forces gave a strong reply. We trust our Army and PM. All drones were neutralised. We are proud of our country.”
Another resident added, “We saw 3-4 drones around 8 PM. Retaliatory firing went on through the night. Schools are closed here, but we’re not afraid.”
Thanks to the swift and effective response by the Indian armed forces, all the drones were neutralised, and no casualties have been reported so far.
The attempted attack targeted both civilian and strategic areas, but was fully thwarted by the Indian military.
