Hindu Student Attacked For Wearing Tilak By School Boys From Other Community, Forced With Family To Convert

On Thursday, two communities had a fight in Alwar, Rajasthan, after some Muslim students at a government school objected Hindu students to wear tilaks on their foreheads.

The altercation took place in Choma village, where the students’ parents also engaged in conflict. A Class 11 student named Shubham Rajput arrived to the school with a tilak on his forehead, the police said. Some Muslim students attacked and threatened him. As a result, up to 500 members from both faiths gathered outside the school.

Shubham’s parents later filed an FIR. To stop the conflict between the two communities from escalating, many police officers were stationed in the area. At a government school in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on July 25, some Muslim students voice against a Hindu student who was wearing a tilak on his forehead. Other Hindu students were seen wearing tilak in the school the next day. Students from both the communities indulged in a fight and then the principal had to step in.

Later, on Thursday, July 27, a fight erupted between Shubham Rajput and a few Muslim classmates over the tilak controversy. A gang of roughly eight Muslim students threatened Shubham when he was seen at school wearing a tilak and demanded that he take it off or face the consequences.

The group allegedly attacked Shubham and forcibly removed his tilak when he tried to complain it to the principal. The police said that students from the Muslim community also asked Shubham and his family to convert to Islam.

Shubham’s parents arrived at the school as soon as they learned of the incident. However, it is also claimed that they were asked to convert and threatened to kill if they refused. Victim’s parents have lodged a complaint to the police, further investigation is underway.
