Four Kg Fibroid Removed From UP Woman's Uterus In KGMU
Doctors at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) have successfully extracted a massive four-kilogram fibroid tumor from the uterus of a 30-year-old woman.
The patient had endured heavy bleeding and abdominal pain for two years, finding no relief from medications. Fibroids, gentle growths in the uterine muscle, are common, but rarely do they reach this size.

Dr. Sujata Deo, leading the surgery alongside Prof. Vandana Solanki, noted this was the largest fibroid they had operated on at KGMU. The patient, from Dewa, Barabanki, began menstruating at 14 and had been married for three years without conceiving, though she had no other health concerns. After unsuccessful treatments at other hospitals, she sought care at KGMU, where doctors identified a large mass in her abdomen, akin to a full-term pregnancy at 36 weeks.
The procedure chosen was a myomectomy, preserving the uterus while removing the fibroid embedded in its wall. Dr. Deo explained, “We decided to perform a myomectomy as in this procedure, only the fibroid is removed while leaving the uterus intact. It took about four hours to remove the tumour.” The operation lasted approximately four hours to excise the tumor measuring 30x25x25 cm.
This successful surgery at KGMU offers hope for the patient’s fertility and relief from her longstanding symptoms.
