Next week, the Election Commission (EC) will visit Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to assess the states’ preparations for the Lok Sabha elections.
From January 7 to January 10, the Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, with Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel, will visit Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Deputy election commissioners will brief the entire commission on January 6 about the preparations in both states before the visit.
To supervise the Lok Sabha election preparations, the deputy election commissioners have travelled to practically every state. Before assembly or Lok Sabha elections, the EC typically visits states to meet with political parties, top law enforcement and administrative officials, and the polling ground.
However, it is uncertain if the EC will visit all the states and union territory, as it may skip the states with recently held assembly elections.
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections took place in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. Vote counting was done on May 23.
After winning 303 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party recorded its highest 37.36% vote share since the general election of 1989. Nearly 912 million eligible voters, and over 67% of them casted votes, making it the most voter turnout ever recorded. Highest percentage of women participation was witnessed in the election.
