As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 approaches, the district administration has commenced extensive preparations to host this grand event.
Anticipating a turnout of around 45 crore devotees, authorities have planned an elaborate setup requiring approximately 9000 hectares of land.
The Prayagraj Mela Authority, operating under the Prayagraj Development Authority, has initiated the land acquisition process, targeting properties from various stakeholders, including the army and local farmers.
Authorities are dispatching notices to secure land spanning 68 villages across four tehsils.
This strategic move aims to provide an area that is nearly 1.5 times larger than the 2019 event, ensuring sufficient space for the massive influx of devotees.
The forthcoming Maha Kumbh Mela will utilize about 6200 hectares for the main event, with an additional 2800 hectares designated for supplementary facilities, such as extensive parking arrangements.
Insights From 2019 Kumbh Mela
Comparatively, the 2019 Kumbh Mela initially covered 3200 hectares, later expanding to 3750 hectares, and accommodated 24 crore devotees.
Key infrastructure developments for the 2025 event include the division of the fairground into 25 sectors and the construction of 30 pontoon bridges across the Ganga River.
To ensure security and smooth operations, authorities will establish 16 temporary police stations, 68 police posts, and 82 fire stations.
Additionally, the administration plans to create 92 parking spaces with a total capacity for 1.5 lakh vehicles, facilitating easier access for the massive influx of devotees.
The Maha Kumbh Mela will feature 20 entry gates and 40 bathing ghats along an eight-kilometer stretch of the river, enhancing the spiritual experience for attendees.
An estimated investment of around 31 thousand crore rupees is being allocated to ensure the event’s success and safety.
Vijay Kiran Anand, the Maha Kumbh Mela Officer, confirmed the comprehensive land acquisition strategy, emphasizing that his team is on track to complete the process well before the scheduled time.
The government has received the proposal for land acquisition, and subsequent steps are already underway.
With these meticulous preparations, the administration aims to facilitate a seamless and memorable Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025. They aim to accommodate the anticipated surge in devotees and ensure all necessary amenities are in place.
