ED officer caught with 20 lakh bribe, arrested

After being discovered by the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, with Rs 20 lakh in his car, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer was taken into custody. It was purported that the officer accepted the money as payment to resolve a case.

The accused ED officer is identified as Ankit Tiwari, and when authorities searched his vehicle on a highway between Madurai and Dindigul, they found Rs 20 lakh in cash.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) searched the ED’s Madurai office after he was arrested. The authorities also searched Ankit Tiwari’s home.

According to sources, an investigation into the case revealed that additional Madurai and Chennai police officers were involved.

Ankit Tiwari was purportedly blackmailing numerous individuals and accepting bribes in crores. According to sources, he was also bribing other ED employees.

Information about the transportation of money intended for bribery on a highway between Madurai and Dindigul was provided to the anti-corruption team.

The group, consisting of Inspector Rupa, DAP Nagarajan, and SP Saravanan, was keeping an eye on the cars passing on that route. Next, the group surrounded a car that appeared suspicious close to Chettinayakanpatti. After the car was inspected, cash worth Rs 20 lakh was found.

After being questioned by the team, Ankit Tiwari, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody.

The car had a sticker that said, “On Government Duty, Enforcement Directorate, Nagpur.” An ID card and the driver’s phone have been seized.
