Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of a “green credit” program that aims to create carbon skins through public engagement and urged all countries to cooperate in order to substantially reduce global emissions.
PM Modi stated today at the COP28 climate conference in Dubai that India has extremely low emissions when compared to other countries with considerably smaller populations.
“India accounts for just 4% of global carbon emissions, despite having 17% of the world’s population. The NDC’s goals are being quickly attained. Referring to the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), a climate action plan to reduce emissions and adapt to climate consequences, PM Modi stated, “In fact, we reached our non-fossil fuel targets nine years before the deadline.”
PM Modi stated, “We do not have much time to correct the mistakes of the last century,” and he urged all countries to earnestly strive toward achieving their NDC goals.
A decision-making body called the Conference of Parties (COP) examines how the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is being implemented.
Two initiatives that the Environment Ministry has launched show how India is proactively addressing climate change and promoting sustainability through the ‘LiFE’—’Lifestyle f for Environment’ campaign, which Prime Minister Modi announced in 2021.
The “green credit” program aims to promote eco-friendly behaviors that are based on custom and preservation and that align with the principles of the “LiFE” concept.
India is one of the few nations on course to meet its 1.5-degree Celsius global warming target under its NDCs.
