According to police, a woman was sexually assaulted by a 23-year-old man while he was delivering groceries to her home in a Greater Noida residential complex in Uttar Pradesh. The event happened on October 27, a Friday.
The woman used a grocery delivery mobile app to place her order, and the app assigned Sumit Singh for delivery who was later arrested.
According to an NDTV report, Sumit realised that the woman was at home alone when he arrived. He then broke into the house, sexually assaulted the woman, and left the scene.
After the incident on Friday, when the woman filed a police complaint, multiple teams of police officers set out to find the accused, who was eventually located in a Greater Noida residential area.
Sumit was able to take a pistol from one of the constables when a police team arrived and approached him, according to the report.
To find Sumit, more teams were dispatched to search the area. When the police teams approached him, he opened fire, and the police responded by shooting him in the leg.
Sumit is receiving medical attention at a hospital after being taken into custody. It has been discovered that Sumit has previously been detained for unlawfully selling alcohol.
