Delhi High Court gave 4 more days to CBI and ED to file reply on the bail plea filed by former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi Liquor Policy Scam case. The next hearing will be done on May 13. During the hearing of case, the investigating agency told court that a co-charge sheet has to be filed in this case. Manish Sisodia has challenged the decision of lower court in High Court. During the last hearing, Manish Sisodia’s lawyer said that the lower court has given custody parole to Sisodia for one day a week to meet his ailing wife.
But after Sisodia’s bail plea was rejected, he is not able to even meet his wife. Till his bail application is pending in the Delhi High Court, he should be allowed to continue custodial parole for one day a week. Sisodia had filed an application demanding that the trial court’s order be continued till the petition is pending in the High Court.
The High Court had asked ED that when Sisodia has been allowed to meet his wife once a week for the last three months, then what is the problem in continuing it? After which lawyer appearing for agency had said that if investigating agency follows the decision of the lower court then they have no problem.
On March 22, 2021, Manish Sisodia announced the new liquor policy. On 17 November 2021, the new liquor policy i.e. Excise Policy 2021-22 was implemented. After the new liquor policy was introduced, the government came out of the liquor business and all the liquor shops went into private hands. The government’s logic behind the new policy was that it would end mafia rule and increase the government’s revenue. However, the new policy was surrounded by controversies from the very beginning. When the controversy escalated, on July 28, 2022, the government canceled its liquor policy and implemented the old policy again.
