The Delhi government’s budget for the fiscal year 2024–25 was released on Monday which allocated worth Rs 16,396 crore for education.
Finance Minister Atishi stated that the state government’s top objective is to provide city’s citizens high-quality education as she presented the budget in the Delhi Assembly.
The minister emphasized how much the state administration led by Kejriwal had changed government schools.
“In the last 10 years, major changes have been introduced in Delhi government schools. We doubled the budget for education in the national capital. Today we are proposing a budget of Rs 16,396 crore for education in Delhi,” she said.
“Before the Kejriwal government, the condition of Delhi government schools were not good. People were forced to go to private schools to study,” Atishi, who also holds the education portfolio, added.
Atishi presented the budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the state assembly on Monday with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore, and said the government is trying to realise the dream of ‘Ram Rajya’.
She further said that education in Delhi Government schools were improved by former deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
She added that the Delhi administration, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has been focusing on teacher training and has already regularized 47,914 teachers. The hiring procedure for the remaining 7,000 positions is still under progress.
She claimed that during the Kejriwal administration, student performance in Delhi government schools has improved, outperforming private institutions currently.
Atishi also mentioned that there are now 93,000 students registered in state-run universities, with 20,000 more places available.
