In a recent development, the Karkardooma Court in Delhi has modified the travel conditions for advocate and former Congress Councillor Ishrat Jahan, who is accused in two Delhi riots cases.
Bail Modification
While granting bail to Ishrat Jahan, Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai modified the travel condition specified in the earlier order. She is now permitted to travel within India but must obtain prior permission from the court before leaving the country.
Court Order
The court’s order stated, “It is accordingly ordered that the condition as mentioned in the order dated March 14, 2022, be modified to the extent that the applicant shall not leave the territory of India without prior permission of the Court nor shall indulge in any kind of criminal activity.”

Previous Bail Conditions
Ishrat Jahan was granted bail in March 2022 due to the larger conspiracy of the Delhi riots case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2020. Initially, she was restricted from leaving the territory of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. Subsequently, this condition was modified to cover only the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR).
Modification Request
Ishrat Jahan filed an application seeking modification of the travel conditions, arguing that the restrictions hindered her ability to practice law beyond the NCR. Her legal representatives, Advocate Adil Boparai and Advocate Srishti Khanna emphasized her compliance with previous court orders and the need for flexibility in her professional engagements.
Opposition from Delhi Police
Advocate Chanya, representing the Delhi Police, opposed the application, citing concerns over Jahan’s previous conduct during the alleged offenses. However, the court ultimately decided to modify the travel conditions after considering the arguments from both sides.
