Congress Leader Chennithala Accuses BJP and Modi of Undermining Gandhi-Nehru Ideology

Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to dismantle the Gandhi-Nehru ideology. Speaking after a two-day state-level training camp in Lonavala, Pune, attended by top leaders including state unit chief Nana Patole, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, and former minister Balasaheb Thorat, Chennithala warned against the erosion of democracy and the Constitution under Modi’s leadership.

Chennithala asserted that Modi’s criticisms of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were indicative of his agenda to dismantle the Gandhi-Nehru ideology. He stressed the urgency of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and emphasized the need for scientific campaigning and effective booth management to secure victory.

Patole echoed Chennithala’s sentiments, urging unity within the Congress party and its allied fronts. He declared that Maharashtra could thwart Modi’s return to power, emphasizing the need for cohesive efforts to counter BJP’s alleged deceit.

Thorat lamented the decline of political ideology, urging the rejection of opportunistic politics. He called for the preservation of Congress’s principles and the expulsion of commercial politicians. Thorat expressed optimism about the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi, asserting that with concerted efforts, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance could secure more than 38 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

Former CM Prithviraj Chavan criticized Modi’s economic policies, arguing that India’s economic growth under the BJP government had lagged behind that of the UPA era. He cited factors such as demonetization, GST implementation, and farmer distress as contributors to the slowdown. Chavan emphasized the need for substantial economic growth to achieve Modi’s vision of India as a developed nation by 2047.

Regarding the Maratha quota, Patole called for legislation that would withstand legal scrutiny, criticizing the previous Fadnavis government’s unsuccessful attempt to implement it. He accused the Maharashtra government of betraying the Maratha community and activist Manoj Jarange by failing to deliver on the promised quota.
