Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile production unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in Lucknow.
During the event, he hailed the success of Operation Sindoor and highlighted the missile’s role in demonstrating India’s military strength.
The new BrahMos facility, developed at a cost of ₹300 crore, will manufacture 80 to 100 missiles annually.
Yogi congratulated the Indian Armed Forces, PM Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the successful cross-border operation and thanked them for turning Uttar Pradesh into a hub for defence manufacturing.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said, “You must have seen a glimpse of the BrahMos missile during Operation Sindoor. If not, ask the people of Pakistan about the power of BrahMos.”
He reaffirmed India’s resolve against terrorism and cited PM Modi’s warning that any future terror act would be treated as an act of war.
“Terrorism doesn’t understand the language of love—it must be answered in its own language,” he asserted. “Operation Sindoor has sent a strong message to the world that India will not tolerate terrorism.”
The facility also houses an Aerospace Integration and Testing Centre, which will produce 100 to 150 next-generation BrahMos missiles every year.
These new models are lighter (1,290 kg vs. the current 2,900 kg), enabling fighter jets like the Sukhoi to carry up to three missiles instead of one, and will offer an extended strike range of over 300 km.
BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, developed the BrahMos missile, which launches from land, sea, or air and uses a ‘fire and forget’ guidance system. It travels at speeds of up to Mach 2.8.
With the addition of this facility, Uttar Pradesh strengthens its position as a key player in India’s defence sector.
The state now hosts one of the two defence industrial corridors in the country, along with Tamil Nadu.
The corridor spans six nodes, Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot, and aims to attract significant investment to enhance India’s defence self-reliance.
