PM Modi Chairs High-Level Security Meeting Following India-Pakistan Tensions

PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting on Sunday at his residence in New Delhi to assess the situation on the India-Pakistan border.

The meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The discussion followed a fragile ceasefire understanding with Pakistan, after recent escalations along the Line of Control and the international border.

Calm Returns After Ceasefire Violation By Pakistan

The border remained quiet on Sunday night after Pakistan violated the ceasefire on Saturday, despite publicly committing to the agreement.

The ceasefire was first announced by US President Donald Trump, who claimed credit for facilitating the de-escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

India and Pakistan had reached a mutual understanding to halt cross-border firing and military action.

However, Pakistan’s sudden aggression shortly after the announcement prompted India to respond forcefully.

India Intercepts Drones; Reimposes Blackouts In Border Regions

Indian authorities confirmed the interception of multiple Pakistani drones across Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Gujarat, and Barmer in Rajasthan.

In response, India reimposed blackouts in several sensitive border zones to prevent further provocations.

The Indian military acted swiftly, targeting incoming drones and missiles. Following this response, Pakistan ceased its hostile activity, at least temporarily.

India Issues Stern Warning Over Violations

In a late-night briefing on Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned the ceasefire breaches. He stated that India had taken ‘very, very serious notice’ of Pakistan’s actions.

“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and handle the situation with seriousness and responsibility. The armed forces have been instructed to respond strongly to any future aggression,” Misri said, confirming that the military remains on high alert.

Pakistan Reiterates Commitment To Ceasefire

Despite the violations, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire agreement on Sunday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the truce as a ‘new beginning’ toward resolving regional issues and achieving peace and stability.

“Pakistan believes this marks a new beginning in the resolution of issues that have plagued the region and prevented its journey toward peace, prosperity and stability,” Sharif stated.
