Surendra Matiala
Surendra Matiala, a Delhi BJP leader, was shot dead at his office Friday evening by two unidentified persons, said police.
According to the police, Mr. Matiala and his nephew were watching TV at about 7:30 p.m. when two guys in masks entered the BJP leader’s office in Dwarka and beat him up before firing at him four to five times from close range. The two individuals, who have yet to be identified by authorities, fled the scene immediately.
The police said that there were three attackers in total. One was waiting outside the premises with a motorbike while two entered the office to murder Mr. Matiala. Following the crime, all three took the same motorbike to flee the area.
Mr. Matiala’s son stated that his father had no animosity towards anyone and hoped that the perpetrators responsible for the murder will be apprehended soon.
Although Mr. Matiala’s family has not named any suspects, the dramatic manner in which he was slain has led authorities to assume that his death was the result of a personal vendetta.
According to sources, Mr. Matiala was involved in a property dispute with some individuals, which the police are investigating.
Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police, Harsha Vardhan said, “The Delhi Police has formed five squads to search for the three guys, and CCTV footage from the crime scene is being analyzed for any leads”.
