Keeping aside ideological differences, winners from BJP, CPM, and Congress joined hands in at least three gram panchayats in West Bengal to put the Trinamool Congress at bay.
On Wednesday, the BJP and CPM formed a united gram panchayat board in Mahishadal, East Midnapore district. The BJP and TMC each won eight of the 18 seats, while the CPM won two. Subhra Panda of the BJP and Paresh Panigrahi of the CPM were chosen as pradhan and upa-pradhan, respectively.
Amritberia is heated over the formation of panchayat board, with TMC’s Mahisadal MLA Tilak Kumar Chakraborty accusing the CPM of providing implicit assistance to BJP against Trinamool Congress.
The BJP and CPM, on the other hand, denied any misunderstanding and stated the decision was made due to local circumstances. Bulu Prasad Jana, a CPM panchayat member, stated, “The INDIA alliance is a decision made by the party at the national level.” However, I backed the BJP-led panchayat board in its efforts to respect local sentiment.”
According to BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya, the equations on the ground differ from those at the state and national levels.
