As the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5 draw closer, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have escalated their political battle, using a series of posters to target each other’s leaders and policies. The two parties are engaged in a heated contest, with both sides using sharp rhetoric to rally support.
On Saturday, the BJP launched a fresh salvo by unveiling a poster that targeted AAP’s National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal. The poster labeled Kejriwal as “Sheesh Mahal wale AAPda-e-Azam,” a reference to his alleged lavish lifestyle. Sharing the poster on X (formerly Twitter), Delhi BJP wrote, “Delhi ki Janta ne thaana hai, Sheesh Mahal wale AAPda-e-Azam ko hatana hai” (Delhi’s public has vowed to remove the Sheesh Mahal’s AAPda-e-Azam).
This new poster campaign is part of the BJP’s broader strategy to take aim at Kejriwal’s leadership as the party prepares for the Delhi Assembly elections.
In response, the AAP has ramped up its own poster campaign. The party recently launched a poster attacking the BJP, particularly focusing on Ramesh Bidhuri, the BJP candidate from Kalkaji. The poster branded the BJP as the “Gaali Galoch Party” (Abusive Party), while also targeting the BJP’s leadership. AAP captioned the poster on X, stating, “Gaalibaaz party ka gaalibaaz CM chehra” (The abusive CM face of an abusive party).

The battle for Delhi’s legislative power has become increasingly intense as BJP and AAP candidates prepare for a head-to-head showdown. BJP’s Parvesh Verma is contesting against Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi Assembly seat, while Ramesh Bidhuri faces a tough challenge from Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, along with Congress candidate Alka Lamba, in Kalkaji. Additionally, Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit is also vying for the New Delhi seat, further complicating the race.
Earlier in the campaign, the BJP launched a series of posters and social media posts accusing the AAP government of mismanagement. The BJP highlighted what it called the party’s failures in governance, with slogans such as “Aap-da for Delhi.” The posters claimed that under the AAP government, Delhi has become a city of lakes during the rains, Mohalla Clinics have turned into “clinics of deaths,” and the promise of better schools was replaced by the opening of bars. The BJP also criticized the AAP for inadequate healthcare and clean drinking water, while pothole-riddled roads and garbage mountains plagued the streets.
One poster emphasized the benefits of a “double-engine government,” with the slogan “Delhi’s development will gain momentum when there is a double-engine government. Dilli ke dil mein Modi” (Delhi’s heart lies with Modi).
The AAP, which secured decisive victories in the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections, is now aiming for a third consecutive term in office. Kejriwal and his party continue to push their agenda of development and reforms as they face off against the BJP in this high-stakes election.
Meanwhile, Congress is striving to regain political relevance in Delhi after being wiped out in the previous two Assembly elections. The party, which was in alliance with AAP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is contesting the Assembly polls independently. Congress hopes to make a strong showing and challenge the dominance of both the BJP and AAP in the capital.
As the election date approaches, both the BJP and AAP are ramping up their campaigns, with posters and social media posts playing a central role in shaping public opinion. The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 8, and the outcome will shape the political direction of the city for the next five years.
